The Yentas Race for the Cure!

We did it! The Yentas (and our friends and family) walked the 5K National Race for the Cure in DC this morning - the largest 5K in the USA! Here we are with Judy's mom, a breast cancer survivor (YAY Terry!) ... wearing our "Eye of the Tiger" ears. --->

There were TONS of people there. I think we will try to meet earlier next time, if only because it will force us to get on the metro sooner! and NOTE TO METRO: run the 8-car trains on the Orange Line on the morning of the RFTC ... too many people (and strollers) to fit on the 6-car trains, especially when they're running 15 minutes apart! I am not claustrophobic, but let me tell you, by the time we got off the train, I had to sit down on the platform for a minute or two -- I nearly passed out!! :( But I got better after that.

We did the 5K (screwiest race course yet... it changes every year!) in just over an hour, and then met up to grab some swag from the sponsor tents. We got pink scarves from Ford, Sun Chips in pink bags, yellow McDonald's hats, and Kellogg's Special K with yogurt clusters. We moseyed on at that point to have brunch at Clyde's on 7th Street. Wow, it was tasty -- especially the warm crumb cake that they brought with our coffee. We were lined up outside the door 5 minutes before they opened, and 10 minutes later the whole place was filled with people wearing RFTC shirts. :)

Just for the fun of it (because she said she would), Judy wore her friend Dan's phone number on her back during the race -- he was trying to meet girls. The catch is, Dan's in Boston. So while we were waiting to get into the restaurant, Val decided she was bored, and called the number. Only, she said her name was Suzie. ;) (Val met Dan at J&J's wedding, 3 years ago) Dan was apparently at a wedding, so he didn't have time to talk. heh.

After brunch, we trundled on home for naptime. We met up later for dinner at the Austin Grill in Silver Spring. It's in a nice new "Town Center" type neighborhood... pedestrian walkways, restaurants, shops, live music in the summer... I had no idea it was even up there! It's called "Silver Sprung." When Val finally got on the phone with Dan and "revealed" herself, apparently he wasn't particularly amused. But we were! Josh took a picture of the Yentas sitting on the bench while Val was talking to Dan... maybe the margaritas, mexican food and Ben & Jerry's ice cream helped us along? ;)

And finally, Mazel Tov to J&J, who will be hearing the pitter-patter of little feet come November! :) A penguin will be in the works soon, I promise.
