Welcome home!
Well, we did it. We rented an apartment! We were going crazy in the tiny Vrbo, so we were extra glad to get out of there a day early.
Those of you who were playing along with the "House Hunters International" game: we ended up renting the 3BR version of apartment #4 (see previous post). Was that your guess? Here are some photos and a quick video (sorry if you get a little motion sickness, I sped it up by 2x!)
It took four trips to get everything moved - one by Uber black ($) another in a taxi (that we hiked a few blocks to catch) and two on the metro. We stopped and bought a wheelie grocery cart after the second trip, so I filled that with the non-fridge stuff and it was pretty easy to move - although I wish I'd looked for the metro elevators more closely - too many stairs to bounce up/down!

Once we got everything moved and enjoyed the central air for a while 🫠, we unpacked and
started laundry. I washed the new sheets but they're still a little... crunchy... mostly due to the hard water here. And we are not allowed to hang anything on the balcony, so we use what the Spaniards call a "sisi" in the smallest bedroom. Not sure what we're going to do when we get a desk in there and it becomes the office! 🤣

After we showered (in different bathrooms!) we made a list and headed over to Aldi to stock up. We got *most* of what we were looking for, but now have a list of housewares that we need to look for elsewhere. This apartment is furnished, mostly from IKEA, but there are a few things missing, like extra pillows, oven mitts, mixing bowls, a spice rack, etc. In all of our trips to Europe, this is the first time we are living in a place that doesn't have an electric kettle! Maybe IKEA didn't have one?
We are just so much more relaxed now that we have a place with room to move around, and multiple rooms to be in. We're not quite ready for company yet, but there is a guest bedroom/bath waiting for you when the weather cools down. Think October. 😁
Next adventure: getting ourselves registered in the neighborhood (empadronamiento) so we can get ID cards and health care. And finding a gym, and a peluqueria (hair salon) that can handle my curls. (I miss Liz already!)
