Clueless in Clarendon rises again!

We did it! First place! :) It didn't start out well... the mic didn't work, and we were treated to a few seconds of high pitched feedback each time Patrick tried to use it. So, we went without... Patrick wasn't quite loud enough so one of the waitresses (a huge voice in such a tiny person!) to called out the questions.

The photo round was distorted photos of famous people... We had a minor disagreement as to whether one photo was Aretha Franklin or Raven Simone. (Yes, the photo was that distorted!) Unfortunately, we chose poorly on that one. (it was Aretha)

So here are some of the questions -- see how you do.
  • Who became King of France in 1643, at the age of 4?
  • Who made the first airplane flight in Australia?
  • Who played the Headless Horseman in Tim Burton's version of Sleepy Hollow?
  • What was completed in Paris in 1345, after 182 years?
  • What Apache chief became a Christian and a farmer?
  • In what 1996 film did Geena Davis play a pirate?
  • What month did Iraq invade Kuwait?
  • What is the unit of currency of Poland?
  • What republican President was responsible for the first trillion dollar budget submitted to Congress in 1987?
  • Who was Lance Armstrong's main sponsor in his 2005 victory in the Tour de France?
  • Who was Al Gore's running mate?
  • What newspaper was purchased by Adolf Ochs in 1896, and given the motto, "all the news that's fit to print?"
  • In 1919, what baseball player hit what was then the longest home run in history, at 579 feet?
  • Why was Jimmy Stewart's character confined to his apartment in "Rear Window"?
  • What was the nationality of William Tell?
  • What is the military rank of the head of Libya?
  • Who was the Beatles' manager?
  • What city is Kylie Minogue from?
(Unfortunately, these last two were the only questions in the music round, because Patrick wasn't able to sing much without the mic.... and he was also still a little bit full of painkillers.) ;)

The final round was all World Cup trivia:
  • What three nations are in the same group as the USA?
  • What was the first African nation ever to qualify for the World Cup?
  • Who won the golden boot in the 1982 World Cup, playing for Italy?
  • Who is the current president of FIFA?**
  • Which two teams played in the first game of this year's World Cup?
  • Who won the Golden Ball award in 1986?
  • Who is the manager of the US Team?
  • What country has won the most World Cup trophies?
** This was the "tuchus point" of the night, as Dani was able to remember not only his name, but the proper spelling. GO DANI! May and I made the appropriate "we're not worthy" motions after this round.
