A few weeks ago I completely "frogged" the cursed purple sweater I made for Samantha (I finished it the first time in February , and had started again in June, to no avail) ... I borrowed Dani's ballwinder and made pretty little yarn cakes. :) Here are the yarn cakes, and just for comparison, one regular unused skein of the lovely Filatura Lanarota D.K. yarn I'm using. This sweater was just plain unwilling to be completed. So, I gave up on that pattern, found another , and started again, in pink. Fortunately, I believe Samantha likes pink a LOT. So here's a pic of how it's coming along. I like this sweater pattern because it goes side-to-side (funny enough, the crochet cardigan I made for her last year also went side-to-side. hmm..) I pinned the armhole together so it wouldn't get too stretched out. I'm also doing the regular part of the pattern in stockinette instead of garter stitch -- I just plain don't like garter stitch. The color is a little...
The Olympics have started! (both the knitting and the Torino events) :) We decided that our team should be called "Team It's All Her Fault". It's a long story, but mostly it's because Dani is the one who taught a lot of our other teammates to knit, and on top of that, we tend to blame her for *everything* whether it's her fault or not. So here's our team logo. We gathered at P's house last night to watch the opening ceremonies from Torino (VERY COOL, although some odd moments -- and what's with the German team's coat colors? Yeccch!) We had chinese food and brownies and wine, and started our Olympic projects. Of course, we all had to pick our Olympic "crushes" -- the athlete that we will follow through all of his events. But, during the parade we saw a female luger from the US Virgin Islands (the only athlete from USVI at the games) who is known as " Grandma Luge " -- she has been in every Winter Olympics since 1988! (that...
On Valentine's Day, we went for an amazing hike in the hills above Barcelona. A couple of months ago, I joined a group called " InterNations " that brings together expats from around the world for events and meetups (it's an international organization with chapters everywhere). We took the funicular up to the meeting point, and it turned out that John and I were the only two signed up for this outing, so off we went with our guide to hike the hills. The views were gorgeous , but it was super windy, and being mid-February, it got dark early. John can see these hills from his office, so it was fun to be on the hill and see the BSC building below. In this photo, BSC is the wide white building in the center (to the left of the yellow crane) and Spotify Camp Nou -- the Barcelona futbol stadium -- is up to the right. But walking for 2 1/2 hours was A LOT. Especially in the dark. We took the funicular back down the hill, and the train back into town, and picked up doner ke...
